County manager updates commissioners on multiple road projects, CSX drainage concern and GDOT railroad crossing study

County Manager James Shubert reported to the Board that plans for Wadley Road, Elmer Thrift Road, Slash Pine Road, Banks Lane and Banks Road are nearly complete apart from utility relocation and that he needs direction on proceeding with right-of-way appraisal and acquisition. He said there had been a previous cost estimate of about $3 million for acquiring rights-of-way for the set of roads under consideration and that appraisers are working on North McDonald Road with owner letters already sent.
Shubert also reported an update on the Albany Avenue grade separation: CSX has reviewed plans with its engineering firm and raised drainage concerns. PDP is close to completing a Level 2 assessment on areas of concern. Shubert said GDOT engineers are studying railroad crossings, Ware County had four of ten crossings in tier one, and GDOT may pursue railroad grants; federal grant applications have June deadlines and Ware County would apply in 2027.
