Ware County, Waycross adopt joint 2026 comprehensive plan to keep QLG status

County Manager James Shubert presented Resolution 2026-09 and told commissioners the document is a joint planning framework for Waycross and Ware County that must be updated every five years to maintain Qualified Local Government (QLG) status and eligibility for state grants, loans, permits and other funding opportunities. “Pursuant to Georgia's local planning requirements, local governments must update and adopt a comprehensive plan every five (5) years to maintain Qualified Local Government (QLG) status,” the meeting record notes.
Commissioner Jon Tindall moved to adopt the 2026 Joint Comprehensive Plan and Commissioner Barry Cox seconded the motion. The roll call vote recorded one no from Commissioner Barry Cox and ayes from other participating commissioners; the resolution passed.
