Council adopts first 2026 budget amendment, adds $35,000 for digital reader boards

Finance Director Kristen Reed presented the second reading of Ordinance 2841, described as the first budget amendment for the 2026 fiscal year. Reed said she made a few small changes since the first reading and pointed out two items specifically: an additional $35,000 added for two digital reader boards to be paid from the street fund (the amount split across funds based on existing IT allocation percentages) and that Fund 35 (Facilities Fund) will be brought below the reserve policy as a result of the amendment.
"We added an additional $35,000 for two digital reader boards, that'll be paid for out of the street fund," Reed said, adding that she handled interfund transfers to keep IT fund balances in policy. Reed said staff had reviewed the amendment and was available for questions. The Finance & Technology committee reported full support for the amendment; the council moved, seconded and approved Ordinance 2841 on its second reading.
The amendment will be implemented through standard budget and accounting processes and staff will monitor reserve levels going forward.
