Lee Chamberlin told the Putney and Dummerston selectboards that the recent blasting operation at the jointly owned gravel pit went smoothly and that no major incidents were reported. Chamberlin said he will follow up with the contractor on a few items and emphasized creating an operating manual to guide the next blast in roughly five years.
Chamberlin said the manual is intended to leave procedural “bread-crumbs” for staff who may change over time. Both towns confirmed they possess closing documents and the permits for the pit. Chamberlin and staff emphasized the need to ensure the operating spreadsheet and reclamation projections account for likely increases in blasting-related costs.
