Board hears plan for Post‑High program to support students with disabilities through age 22

Dr. Johnson said the district invited high‑school staff Joy Melendez and Brecken Peterson to help design and oversee the program. He noted that state rules permit eligible students to continue receiving services in public schools until age 22, but emphasized eligibility is decided by the IEP team: “It’s not everybody that has an IEP… It’s eligibility,” a staff presenter said.
A resident and program participant highlighted the lack of adult service options in Morgan County and described the 'cliff' families face when students age out. Board members welcomed the program as an important step to bridge local service gaps and asked for implementation details and cost estimates to be provided.
