Renewals fall: Dune City reports decrease in short-term rental permits, council to revisit staffing and cap options

"As of today's date, there are 26 that have reapplied," McGuire said, noting the number had decreased and that council would consider the financial and enforcement consequences. Councilors and staff discussed that fewer permits would reduce projected revenue and could change the staffing model for code enforcement—from a proposed part-time position toward a smaller fractional role if permit counts remain low.
Council members asked staff for an updated spreadsheet and for scenario runs reflecting permit totals in the 30–70 range so the council could decide whether to cap permits, adjust fees, or change the enforcement staffing model. No formal decision was taken; the council scheduled follow-up and asked staff to update the models before the next substantive discussion.
