Board moves forward with initial fire-mitigation contract, cautions on ongoing funding needs

The Perry Park Metropolitan District heard an update Oct. 10 that Dove Creek Forestry is prepared to begin mitigation work on district property once the contract is returned with legal comments. Director Joseph Brickweg said the district should plan to budget about $70,000 each year for continued mitigation and maintenance after the first round of work.
Randal Johnson of Wildfire Risk Management, Ltd. told the board that Dove Creek Forestry is ready to engage on the area known as the Big D as soon as the signed contract is in place. Rebecca Harris, the district manager, said the administration is waiting for legal counsel’s comments before executing the contract.
A resident raised a broader concern that the district has not performed fire mitigation for 20 years; Director Christian M. Warren clarified that the resident’s comment pertained to mitigation on Metro-owned parcels only and said the board is now moving forward to mitigate Metro-owned property and to put a plan in place.
