Council agrees to draft resolution recognizing Dominguez–Escalante Expedition Day on Sept. 9

Dan Fiscus, vice president of the Rangely Outdoor Museum, told the council the museum received a $7,500 grant from History Colorado and is assembling an exhibit and parade presence to mark the 250th anniversary of the Dominguez–Escalante expedition. "We received a grant from History Colorado for $7,500 and we're working on a project right now," Fiscus said, adding the exhibit will likely cost about $10,000 when finished and that the group plans to appear in the town’s Septemberfest parade.

Councilmember Tim moved that the council declare Sept. 9, starting in 2026 and recurring annually, as Dominguez–Escalante Expedition Day in Rangely and asked staff to draft a resolution for formal adoption. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. The council directed staff to prepare draft language and suggested publicity through the town page when the mayor signs the resolution. The museum asked only for the town’s recognition and assistance with publicity; the museum will continue to seek grants and private donations for the exhibit.
