Board members reviewed a first reading of a policy framework and debated whether timelines and review procedures should appear in policy language or in accompanying procedures.
One board member asked, "do we wanna add some timelines in regards to reviewing and responses so we have a little bit more definition of what reasonable review ... would look like?" Another board member and administration recommended keeping policy language flexible and moving timing specifics into procedural documents so the district retains implementation flexibility.
Board members agreed to identify two or three policies before the next meeting for deeper review; the board chair said she would whittle a larger set down to five or six policies for the upcoming study session. Members also noted several policies with adoption dates from 1999 that need updating.
