Staff informed commissioners that three-year terms for current members had expired and asked which members intended to continue so staff could forward reappointment materials to council.
Commissioners discussed bylaws and code limits on consecutive terms, the ideal commission size (5 to 9 members), and the desire to stagger terms to preserve institutional memory. Legal counsel explained appointments are made by the county manager with advice and consent of council and read the county code stating that commissioners who fail to attend three regular meetings within any consecutive three-month period may be removed at the manager's discretion.
Members agreed staff will advertise for volunteers and that the commission should plan officer elections at the next meeting once membership is confirmed. Staff will also reach out to absent members to reconfirm their willingness to serve.
