Energy Committee explores community tool-lending shed at Lighthouse garage/barn

The Sharon Energy Committee discussed March 24 a community tool-lending shed after Ryan Haac relayed a proposal from Ken Wright for a local tool-sharing system. Members noted that many experienced carpenters have unused tools and suggested the Lighthouse garage/barn as a possible location for storage and lending of items such as woody-weed-pullers.

Committee members agreed that more sensitive items, including telescopes and cameras, would likely remain indoors at the library, while larger or weather-resistant tools could be kept in the garage/barn. Cat Buxton shared contacts and a needs-assessment survey used by a Hartford team; Cat and/or Jill Wilcox will attend a future Hartford meeting to learn from that group and adapt a similar survey for Sharon.

Why it matters: A community tool-lending program could expand access to equipment, reduce consumption, and support local projects. The committee discussed integrating existing local efforts — for example, the Sharon Health Initiative’s medical equipment collection — into the lending program.

Next steps: Ryan agreed to arrange a site meeting with Ken Wright to explore logistics and storage options; committee members will develop a local needs-assessment survey with input from the Hartford group.
