Engineers recommend replacing collapsed sewer segment on 11th Street amid capacity concerns

City engineer Logan Jensen reported to the council that video inspection of the sanitary main between 10th and 14th Streets revealed blockages and several collapsed sections. An emergency overflow was designed to engage only when a manhole backs up; residents at 11th Street have experienced backups because a private lift station sends surges down the line when obstructed.
Jensen said the city should consider replacing the whole section from 10th to 14th Street and potentially upsizing the line to account for recent development and planned projects (including LOVES and TA). "We need to look at upsizing the whole system because when it was originally done, they did not have the new LOVES, the TA, or other development that is now adding capacity to Carlin," Jensen said. Councilmembers suggested exploring takeover of the private lift station and scheduled further engineering review and more frequent engineering updates to the council.
