Union County amends five-year bridge plan, adds three structures for state Bridge Improvement Grant

The Union County Board of Commissioners approved Resolution HD2024-06 on Aug. 6, 2024, amending the county's five-year Bridge Improvement Grant plan to add three structures for repair or replacement. Commissioner Joffer moved the resolution; Commissioner Kimmel seconded and the motion carried. Chairman Richard Headid was authorized to sign the document.
The resolution adds structure 64-042-050 (4.8 miles west and 1.0 mile south of Alcester over West Brule Creek), structure 64-058-050 (3.2 miles west and 1.0 mile south of Alcester over East Brule Creek) and structure 64-070-250 (1.0 mile east and 2.0 miles north of Elk Point over Lewis Ditch). The board's action requests that the South Dakota Department of Transportation accept the amended plan previously approved on April 2, 2024.
The motion and accompanying resolution are recorded in the minutes as HD2024-06. No cost estimates or construction timelines were included in the minutes; the amendment is a formal request to SDDOT to add the structures to the county's BIG program plan and does not by itself appropriate funds.
