The Washington Metrorail Safety Commission said in a June update that rail safety depends on continuous learning and strong leadership, and that staff training is a central piece of that work. An agency official said the WMSC hosted in‑person training presented by the Transportation Safety Institute that combined classroom instruction with a hands‑on exercise at Union Station.
