Deputy Sam: undersheriff staying in Amity while county backfills deputies

The Yamamoto County Sheriff's Office provided a staffing update during citizen comments at the Oct. 2 Amity City Council meeting. Deputy Sam told the council that Deputy Tomorrow left in late September and the undersheriff Val has taken a day shift. "We've been very short across the board at the office," Deputy Sam said, and the undersheriff will remain in the Amity area until county positions are backfilled, which could take "a month or two."
The deputy said the office may send more administrative personnel, including the sheriff, to patrol while staffing is thin. Council members asked whether calls to schools are tracked; Deputy Sam said such calls should be recorded but that the nature of the call (harassment, fight, etc.) affects how the report appears. The council asked staff to follow up with Sergeant Kirk about details of the shift changes and record-keeping.
