Commission authorizes RFP for replacement ambulance to replace aging 2012 unit

Junction City fire/EMS staff received authorization from the commission to issue a competitive sealed RFP for a replacement medic unit.
Fire/EMS staff explained the request would replace a 2012 mid-unit ambulance with approximately 120,000 miles and that the department had budgeted for a replacement in 2026. “That one also… replaces a 2012 mid unit that has a 120,000 miles on it,” staff said, describing life-cycle concerns with older vehicles and noting prior repairs including a transmission and engine.
Staff told the commission the budget account contains funds sufficient for the purchase (the account balance and ceiling were discussed during the presentation) and that the city typically receives five to six competitive bidder responses for this equipment. Commissioners asked about specification breadth and potential price ceilings and then approved proceeding with the RFP.
Staff said once proposals are received the commission will receive a recommendation for award based on specifications and price.
