Officials warn neighbor pushback could derail denser projects; call for outreach

"Some of the the biggest barrier I felt was the neighbors and and community as the pushback, against more density," S7 said, describing years‑long controversies in adjacent neighborhoods.
Members agreed community education and early engagement will be essential, and some suggested the housing authority position itself to help shepherd village‑overlay processes so affordable housing is considered at project inception. Staff proposed subcommittee work on education and advocacy to build local support ahead of code or zoning changes.
