Findlay planners propose community-involvement language for developers

The session’s moderator agreed that the city can insert a relatively generic statement into the framework so that developers understand the community’s operating expectations without imposing municipal negotiations on every private deal.
The group discussed the boundary between municipal involvement and external economic-development organizations. One committee member cautioned against publicizing early-stage land negotiations because it can deter private investment; the moderator said the city will make clear how it operates while allowing outside development partners to identify sites and negotiate details.
“Part of what…this isn’t the municipal — this is the economic development that they would negotiate outside of the municipality,” a committee member said, summarizing the intended approach and the difference between the city’s role and third-party developers.
Next steps: staff will draft the proposed community-involvement clause for review in a future meeting and fold the language into the broader economic development framework ahead of outreach to prospective developers.
