Board hears growth-based assessment data and a coding error that likely lowered reported graduation rate

"So when we talk about student academic achievement, this is the conversation we have with our teachers," the presenter said, showing MAP growth charts to illustrate individual student progress even when state test results may not show grade-level attainment. The presenter urged the board to advocate at the state level for accountability systems that include individual growth measures.
Separately, staff reported a data-coding problem that affected the districts 4‑year graduation cohort: several exchange students and transfers remained coded to the district and were counted as non‑completers, which will depress the reported graduation rate. Staff described the cause as automatic rollover in the system when a receiving district does not re‑code a student and said they will audit student coding, prepare a spreadsheet of affected records and pursue corrections with the Oregon Department of Education where possible.
Board members asked for a plan to double-check coding annually and to provide updated graduation figures once corrections are complete.
