Commission discusses entry-level officer test, will explore state testing with CJTC

Commissioner Cindy Wilmoth presented an expanded draft of an entry-level written test for police officer candidates. Commissioner Jim Earle said that, based on his experience, many of the draft questions would be more suitable for an oral interview and that scenario-based questions are not commonly part of written tests. He discussed the commission's role in establishing a list of candidates qualified for further interviews.
Commissioners discussed outsourcing testing as an option to ensure applicants meet state standards. Commissioner Earle said he would reach out to the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) for more information about state testing services. Commissioner Nupp moved to table development of the entry-level test to the following meeting; Commissioner Wilmoth seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
