Board approves second contractor to speed site work at three elementary schools
Summary
District staff told trustees the original site-work contractor has not met timeline obligations; to avoid delaying school openings the board approved adding a second contractor recommended by the construction manager (Barton Mallo/Barton Mallow) to finish site work at Pleasant View, Crescentwood and Bellevue.

District staff reported delays with the site-work contractor originally approved in bid pack 10 and asked the board to approve a second contractor so elementary schools can open on schedule. The district’s construction manager recommended a second contractor and the board approved bringing that contractor on to complete site work at the three elementary campuses.
Superintendent Gibson told trustees the initial contractor, Gibraltar, was not meeting timeline obligations and that crews had worker shortages impacting progress. "Our initial contractor...is not meeting their timeline obligations to the district," Gibson said. The board approved contracting with the recommended second firm to pick up where work was left off so playgrounds, asphalt and bus loops can be completed before school begins.
Trustees discussed differing scopes at the three sites (Pleasant View, Crescentwood, Bellevue) and the need to avoid a stop-work scenario. The motion to accept the additional contractor passed unanimously (6–0). Staff said they will sign the agreement after the board vote and monitor progress closely.
