The Londonderry Planning Commission held a public hearing March 9 on proposed updates to the town's Unified Development By‑Laws, with Chair Brent Bammarito calling the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. and Zoning Administrator William Goodwin outlining the package of changes.
Goodwin summarized the proposed revisions as clarifications on which rules apply to single‑ and two‑family homes versus commercial or multi‑unit properties, a return to the existing zoning districts with limited adjustments, a cap on building height and a rule allowing two houses per driveway but not three. He also said the draft would relax several landscaping and parking rules and make fewer permits subject to hearings. "No zoning for vending machines" and a reduced set of rules for manufactured homes were among the examples Goodwin read to the hearing, and he said the draft references state wetlands, stormwater and erosion rules as the baseline.
Commissioners, members of the Housing Commission and several residents raised concerns about housing supply and lot sizes, and asked for clarity on which permits the Zoning Administrator can issue versus those that require Development Review Board review. The commission agreed to set a follow‑up hearing for April 13 to continue public input and additional edits to the draft.
