The Board of Selectmen discussed a draft describing the board's roles and responsibilities as a template for other committees and agreed to refine it before final approval.
Robin Hunter raised concerns about a proposed change that appeared to assign budget development duties to the board, saying the item gave her "some pause" because she believes development of the budget is the responsibility of the town administrator and finance staff and the board's role is to review and set strategy. Several members agreed the paragraph could be repositioned as a town-level introductory statement rather than a direct duty of the Selectmen.
Members asked for editorial refinements to keep the policy high-level and to move some operational details to administration-level documents; Robin said she would reorganize the draft and circulate it before the planning meeting on August 10 so the board could aim to approve the revised document then.
The board did not vote on the policy at the meeting and directed staff and members to prepare edits and return with the revised text at the planning session.
