Staff briefed trustees on new advisory requirements for small districts that will require Mapleton SD 32 to establish an educational equity advisory committee (BCF) and to have the committee in place prior to Sept. 15, 2025.
The staff presentation summarized legislative and Oregon Department of Education guidance that led to the change, and trustees agreed to launch a comprehensive needs assessment in February and to include board representatives or designees in the planning and selection process. Staff noted the committee is advisory to the board and that a committee member should also serve on the district budget committee.
Trustees asked about timelines and membership; staff said they will propose composition and outreach plans in the next month and will return with a charter and recruitment approach.
