Committee reports four parcels approved, 21 properties remain in Middle Creek acquisitions

Dr. Pawan Upadhyay told the Middle Creek Project Committee that "four properties have been approved by the board for just compensation" and that a separate purchase contract is in its final stage. He said three of the approved parcels are ready for the owners to sign sales documents.

Michael Bedar provided the committee’s current counts, saying "21 properties with approximately 14 owners." Members raised concerns about the mix of willing and non-willing sellers and the potential need for relocation, with Dr. Upadhyay noting about "10–15 properties remaining that have a residence." Supervisor Sabatier asked for a color-coded map showing which parcels are acquired, which remain, the split between willing and non-willing sellers, and which parcels are tribally owned or held in trust. Several members urged better online mapping and documentation of parcel status.

The discussion emphasized collaboration with federally recognized tribes and recommended including the new program coordinator in meetings between the Army Corps and tribal representatives. Committee members also asked staff to provide per-acre pricing and a funding check to confirm whether available funds can support completing remaining acquisitions.
