"The variance is really no longer needed," the staff member said, explaining that evergreen plantings outside the buffer and handwork in the buffer addressed prior concerns. The board took a formal vote because the original public hearing had been advertised; the motion to allow withdrawal passed unanimously. The board also noted the applicants were present should additional clarification be needed and that no further public comment was required because the matter was a decision‑only item.
