Noble County approves contract for Caitlin McKernan as Health 1st Indiana coordinator

The Noble County Board of Commissioners voted to approve a contract to hire Caitlin McKernan as the Health 1st Indiana coordinator, effective July 27 and running through Dec. 31, 2027. A committee member moved the contract and the motion was seconded; the board approved it by voice vote.

Committee member moved, “I'll make a motion that we approve the contract for the Health 1st Indiana coordinator, for Caitlin McKernan, and this is effective, the July 27 of this year, and through the 12/31/2027,” including pay allocations for the remainder of 2026 and for 2027. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.

The board clarified terms during the discussion: staff said the position carries a minimum of 75 hours per two-week pay period and that after-hours events are expected to be flexed rather than paid as separate overtime; drive time to the Albion office is not paid and the position is not remote. Staff said McKernan will spend a few weeks with departing staffer Amy to learn day-to-day responsibilities before assuming the role.

McKernan, introduced to the board as Caitlin McKernan, told members she recently graduated from Ball State and previously interned at the Wabash County Health Department. The board welcomed her; staff said they will present the contract at the next council meeting for formal processing.
