Planning official outlines plan-map PAC meeting, housing work and ADU code changes; announces retirement

Planning official Carl McCain provided a department update noting that the party who appealed the EOA had withdrawn their appeal. McCain asked commissioners to put on their calendars a PAC meeting and a public open house on May 19 at the Port Amaro Riverfront Center to review a draft comprehensive plan map, draft zoning map and draft policies.
McCain said work on a housing-capacity analysis (HCA) is underway and that staff may need a planning commissioner to attend daytime HCA meetings; he reported that Promade Homes bought remaining River Ridge lots and that the developer Chaparral pavement work is underway. McCain also said the department received an application for a 240-unit multifamily development on Wilson that may appear on the May 21 agenda, and announced staff will draft language to add accessory dwelling units to the development code to comply with statutory requirements for communities above 2,500 population.
In personnel news, McCain said his official retirement date is June 30 and that Stephanie Case will start as planning official on July 1; he said Aurelie Tambaro will be promoted to planner 2. McCain framed the changes as a continuation of departmental work and said he will remain on a reduced schedule as a planning specialist after July 1.
