Kevin Merkel presented on behalf of sanitary disposal and requested a 2.99% rate increase effective July 1, citing increased costs for equipment, maintenance, fuel, disposal and insurance. Merkel told council the company is investing in new trucks and facility upgrades to improve safety and reliability while struggling with higher local labor costs and driver shortages.
Merkel provided council members with a packet that, he said, summarized capital spending, CPI comparisons, operating costs and a sample rate table. He closed by asking if there were questions; council members had no substantive questions on the record at the meeting.
