Macon County advances multiple road and bridge projects; engineer reports contract timelines

County Engineer reported progress and upcoming work on multiple road and bridge projects during sessions spanning late 2002 through mid-2003.
The engineer noted four resurfacing projects were opened (low bid $847,000 by Wire Grass; county share reported at 20 percent) and said work would begin roughly 160 days after contract acceptance with county forces administering the contract. Amendment One bridge work was described as substantially complete on several bridges (including County Road 47), and the engineer said additional bridges would be let in future contracts. A short detour plan for paired bridge work on County Road 2 (Calebee Creek area) was discussed; the contractor proposed doing two proximate bridges in sequence to shorten individual closures.
Commissioners also heard an update on CDBG-funded work (Green Street, Brooks Road) and were told weather and emergency washouts had delayed some work. The engineer requested, and the Commission authorized, that the County Road Department make safety repairs on County Road 56 after the city’s transfer of the road to the county.
