County engineer warns quarry shortages are reshaping road project plans

Jackson County’s engineer told supervisors July 8 that wet weather and quarry supply shortages are complicating secondary‑roads work and that crews will reposition based on where crushing is available. The engineer cited the Bush Quarry (near Centerville/Saint Donatus) and the Rolling Quarry on 216th as examples where planned material was not available and said the county is moving crews and weighing contract hauling to avoid long‑haul costs.
"We're gonna have to kinda move around to where the quarries have rock to keep it long or shorter haul distances versus long hauling it," the county engineer said. Board members discussed prioritizing roads originally planned for work and acknowledged the county may have to adapt its schedule to suppliers’ crushing timetables.
