Engineers report paving progress, multiple bridges still restricted

County Engineer Harold D. Bradford briefed the commission repeatedly across meetings about paving schedules and bridges that remain closed or weight-restricted. Bradford said major work on County Road 23 was nearly complete and paving was scheduled for County Road 2 to the Bullock County line; he also reported that several bridges remained closed (County Roads 67, 45, and 73) and noted an increasing number of posted bridges after the annual inspection.
"The major work on County Road 23 is almost complete and all that is lacking is seeding and mulching and it is awaiting paving by the contractor," Bradford reported in the minutes. He told commissioners the county had 80–90 bridges to inspect and that many bridges would require replacement or posting; he also urged enforcement of weight restrictions to prevent further damage.
Commissioners received and voted to review numerous bids for road-building materials (pipes, asphalt, crushed stone, timbers, and guardrail) to be recommended by the engineer and purchasing agent. The commission authorized receiving those bids and tasked the engineer and purchasing agent to recommend awards to the board.
