Committee explores roundabouts, loop ramps and phased approaches to avoid costly bridge widening
Advisory members and consultants discussed a range of conceptual interchange alternatives — from widening the overpass and signalizing ramps to looped off‑ramps and multiple roundabout forms — and agreed the team will sketch roughly a dozen concepts and evaluate them against operational, freight, multimodal and cost criteria.

Consultants previewed several conceptual forms that will be developed more fully during the alternatives phase: (1) a widened overpass with signalized ramp terminals and widened off‑ramps, (2) roundabout‑based treatments that can often avoid bridge widening because they remove the need for left‑turn lanes, and (3) looped off‑ramp concepts that convert left turns into right turns to improve flow for predominant movements.
