Polk County commissioners authorized a consultant services contract with Jacobs Engineering Group to design improvements at the Kathleen Road and West Campbell Road intersection, approving a not-to-exceed fee of $273,004.60.
County Manager Bill Beasley said the scope includes roadway design, utility coordination, geotechnical and subsurface utility engineering, and preparation of construction plans; staff will analyze interim signalization and turn-lane configurations. "This intersection currently meets signalization warrants...and the signalization aspect is characterized as an interim signal based upon a new signal being installed upon the future widening of Kathleen Road," Beasley said.
Commissioner Scott urged the board to continue to emphasize safety and described the consultant authorization as an interim but necessary step to improve conditions. The board approved the authorization by voice vote with no opposition.
