Sheriff's office seeks selective overtime DUI grant; commissioners authorize application

Captain Newton of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office asked the board to approve submission of a selective overtime grant application to the Nebraska Department of Transportation Office of Highway Safety. The proposed enforcement period runs Aug. 21 through Sept. 7, 2026, covering the Labor Day weekend. Newton said the grant request cap is $11,000 but cautioned actual awards are often lower than the requested cap.
A commissioner moved to approve the submission and the board adopted the motion by roll call. The sheriff's office will finalize paperwork and accept whatever award amount the state provides up to the stated cap.
