County committee abolishes Brownfield plan after Dollar General redevelopment

The committee unanimously approved the Jackson County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority’s recommendation to abolish the Brownfield plan for 2400 East Michigan Avenue in Blackman Township, the site developed as a Dollar General.
Keith Golenwater of Accelerate Jackson County told the committee the brownfield plan, approved in 2019, covered remediation and demolition of an old lumber-yard site and related contamination; he said "the property was properly cleaned of the environmental contamination" and that "the taxable value of the property rose from… $67,900 to $453,155," generating roughly $18,500 in additional annual property tax revenue for the taxing jurisdictions. Commissioner Pulaski moved to adopt the abolishment recommendation; Commissioner Snell supported the motion, and the vote was unanimous.
