Staff presented results of a community survey (45 responses) on Veterans Day options. Responses were divided among keeping the federal holiday (no school), holding a formal in‑school celebration, or holding school while marking the day; staff reported that 38.6% preferred keeping the holiday and 36.4% favored an in‑school celebration. The board discussed tradeoffs, including teacher workload and student attendance patterns.
Staff suggested an alternative schedule: move a grading day to create a long week (for staff) and hold a recognition event while keeping a school day on the calendar, an approach staff said could increase mid‑week attendance and allow a meaningful student activity without losing instructional time. Board members asked staff to widen outreach to staff and families and return with three concrete calendar options for an association review and a future vote.
