Planning staff told commissioners the city will update its system development charges (SDCs) to create a methodology and fee structure that includes parks and transportation in addition to water and wastewater. "Should be by late June, hopefully. If all goes well, 1st part of July, we should have a methodology and a fee structure," staff (Staff member (speaker 3)) said.
Staff explained that SDCs are designed to collect money from new development to pay for future infrastructure needs rather than retroactively pay for past projects. "SDCs today are currently about $5,000 for a new home for water and wastewater," staff said, and noted state statute requires a 90-day public-notice period followed by a council hearing for adoption of an SDC schedule.
