District outlines facility RFP and construction plans for security, program space and sustainability

District staff reported that approximately 20 firms attended an on-site walk for an upcoming facilities RFP that will seek proposals to retool school spaces for program needs and improved security.
The superintendent (speaker 6) described priorities in the RFP: creating controlled access points, family-style restrooms, flexible music and foods-lab space, moving some modular programs into permanent walls, and honoring local character and indigenous design elements. He said the RFP asks proposers to address sustainability and community integration, and that some grant funding (Energy Trust of Oregon) might be available to support retrofits or new construction.
Staff asked for one or two board members to assist with proposal evaluations in January; the district has an evaluation rubric and will post documents to the district website. The superintendent said value engineering is ongoing and that cost may limit design choices, including whether a pavilion should be two- or four-sided and whether to add power to remote sites.
