Bexar County unveils financial transparency dashboard to public

Bexar County Commissioners on Oct. 29 approved the public launch of a new financial-transparency dashboard designed to let residents view the county’s budgets, expenditures and transaction-level “checkbook” data back to 2021.
Commissioner Grant Moody introduced the tool as a way for "any citizen in Bexar County" to see how taxpayer dollars are spent. County Auditor Leo Caldera said the office had to map roughly 12,000 lines of accounting and that the work was "very labor intensive" but worthwhile so the public can "better understand the financials." Michael Masters of ClearGov demonstrated the interface, showing tabs for revenues, expenditures and a searchable checkbook with vendor, description and amounts.
Moody emphasized the product is "version 1.0" and urged residents to provide feedback so staff can improve it. Caldera and ClearGov representatives said the platform can also support budget books, procurement visualizations and downloadable data. Commissioners asked staff to continue exploring budget-transparency features and to work with departments on future enhancements.
The court did not take a separate vote to adopt the dashboard; the presentation and accompanying acknowledgements were recorded in the minutes. Staff said a link to the tool will appear on the Bexar County website under the transparency page and in the site footer.
