Solid waste plan approved by DEC; county schedules electronics recycling and expands outreach

Senior Planner Evan Tuthill told the committee that the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation issued final approval for the Cayuga County Local Solid Waste Management Plan on January 24, 2025.
Staff said they will implement recommendations from the plan, prepare outreach materials about recycling best practices, and hold recycling events. The county scheduled an Electronics Recycling Event for March 22, 2025 at three locations including the Ira County Highway Garage, Cayuga Community College parking lot (197 Franklin St.), and the Venice County Highway Garage; registration for the Auburn location opened February 4.
Tuthill also reported that the county received $15,874 on December 26, 2024 via a state grant to cover 50% of the costs incurred by Household Hazardous Waste collection programming in 2023, and that staff applied for a similar grant for 2024 expenses (Resolution 466‑24 filed February 11).
