Campbell County staff reminded the joint bodies that the Code of Virginia requires comprehensive plans to be reviewed at least every five years and said the county’s last review was completed in 2022. Staff told the planning commission they will bring proposed chapter updates individually to solicit public feedback and aim to have proposed changes before the board in early 2027.
Staff highlighted a proposed change to reflect the board’s earlier determination to allow increased density in an area near Pepper Bridal Road and the Brookneal Election District and recommended using a transition designation to guide that growth. A staff member said the transition designation was extended along Long Island Road by about 1,500 feet (approximately 3,000 feet width) to match an existing transitional corridor and invited board members to suggest amendments as the review moves forward.
