LN Compute proposes 0.8-acre Bitcoin-mining site on Substation Road, county told

Eric Su of LN Compute told the Atkinson County Board of Commissioners on July 29 that the company proposes a Bitcoin-mining data center on approximately 0.8 acres on Substation Road to be leased from a private property owner. Su said the facility would use two deep wells (one as backup) to supply water for cooling, operate a closed-loop cooling system with no runoff, and that a similar site visited in Bacon County recorded a noise level of 62.5 decibels, which he described as confirming no significant disturbance to neighbors.
County Attorney Shea Browning told commissioners the county has limited authority to block the project because it is located on private property and, according to Browning, "there are no zoning regulations in effect." Su said Satilla REMC had confirmed the co-op can supply the electricity needed but that the facility is not classified as critical infrastructure and REMC retains the right to disconnect power if necessary. Su also said the project would generate a 4% sales tax return to the county and produce personal property tax revenue. Visitors were given an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation; no formal public comments on the record were entered elsewhere in the meeting.
