Commission approves multiple payments, resolutions and equipment purchases in 3-0 votes

Neosho County commissioners on Jan. 20 approved a series of payments, equipment purchases and resolutions in unanimous 3-0 votes that the board characterized as routine county business.

Key approvals included final payment #16 to Bridges Inc. for the Elk Road River Bridge Project (Bridge No. BSN 661, KDOT Project No. 67C-5209-01) for $434,558.87 from the Special Bridge fund and change order #2 to Bridges Inc. for $28,259.48 to be paid from the Road Sales Tax fund. The commission also authorized payment No. 1 to Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc. for the Elk Road Overlay Project for $513,536.56 from the Road Sales Tax fund. Road & Bridge Director Mike Brown reported the US-59 Union Pacific Railroad overpass construction will begin Feb. 23, 2026.

The commission authorized two new motor graders via Special Accounts Payable on Jan. 21, 2026, to be paid from Equipment Reserve, and approved a $49,898 Chevrolet purchase for the Sheriff's Department to replace a previously ordered Dodge truck (the canceled Dodge purchase had been for $45,454). The board also approved a $14,970 quote from BPECO for upgraded fuel gauges on county fuel tanks and a $50,000 credit application for Fleet Fuels.

On policy and reporting items, the board adopted Resolution R-26-B to obtain the updated five-year Solid Waste Management Plan and adopted Resolution R-26-A concerning Neosho County Financial Statements and Reports for the year ending Dec. 31, 2026, citing requirements under K.S.A. 75-1120a. Commissioner Westhoff moved to adopt Resolution R-26-C to update speed limits associated with the US-59 overpass project; the motion passed 3-0.
