Economic Development Authority reports $421,000 budget, highlights Project Access priorities

The Economic Development Authority briefed the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors on its priorities and budget. Mr. Anzivino reported the EDA's current budget is $421,000, of which $89,000 is provided by the County; additional revenue comes from investment interest and lodging-tax receipts. He said roughly $200,000 of the budget is dedicated to Project Access expenses for debt service, and that the strategic plan lists Project Access (boat ramps and public access) as an identified 2025 priority.
Mr. Anzivino said Mrs. Law's role will expand to include management of the County tourism website. Board members discussed sewer infrastructure in the context of economic development: Supervisor Williams argued that the lack of sewer should not be used to discourage development and cited businesses such as McDonald's and Chick-fil-A as examples where development proceeded without centralized sewer; Supervisor Crittenden referenced decentralized sewer systems used elsewhere.
