Board reviews mobile library policies, accessibility and volunteer training

Board members reviewed a revised set of mobile library policies that add an outreach mission statement and specific criteria for stops, a staff member said. The staff member told the board the policies were updated since the agenda and suggested reorganizing the draft to place the mission statement first and clearly label the criteria section.

Committee members pressed for clarity on the "specific criteria" referenced in the draft and where the ADA/accessibility commitments appear. The staff member said the criteria are the six bullet points under the 'mobile library stocks' section and agreed to adjust the document's structure so criteria are easier to find.

Operational concerns featured volunteer recruitment and driver training. The staff member said initial deployments will use two supervisors as drivers and that volunteers will be onboarded only after staff are trained; volunteer drivers would likely need a defensive-driving course and insurance clearance. The board also discussed contingency plans for heat or icy conditions and the option of relocating outdoor activities to nearby indoor venues when available.
