Council approves unified wayfinding plan and design; implementation to be phased

Designer Jonathan Scott, working with Explore Sisters and city staff, presented a wayfinding master plan that recommends a family of signs — gateway, vehicular directionals, pedestrian, park entries and kiosks — and a materials palette that references local masonry and wood finishes. "We developed a unified sign design under the Explorer Sisters brand identity as well as the City of Sisters seal," Jonathan Scott said, describing preliminary locations and modular panel designs intended to be flexible for fabrication and phasing.

Council discussed flexibility (kiosks and pedestrian panels that can be changed), ODOT and gateway constraints, adding the museum to pedestrian panels and protecting the city’s visual character. Staff said the work will be phased; some signs fall under URA funding and staff will return with a phasing and implementation plan and preliminary cost estimates. Council voted unanimously to adopt the design and placement plan and directed staff to bring back phasing/budget details for implementation.
