KCKPS work-based learning coordinator points to community projects and local partners

Cartesia Virge, the district's work-based learning coordinator, described how the district connects K'12 classroom learning to local employers through client-connected projects, internships and entrepreneurial competitions. "We approached this client and they wanted to change how their building looks so that the community can be more involved in their process and have a better understanding of when they receive their monthly bills," Virge said of a project with BPU involving students from Wyandotte and Harmon.
Virge said the district attends Economic Development Council meetings, participates in partner events, and has seen new opportunities open as large, international events drew business interest. She urged businesses and potential partners to visit the district's work-based learning webpage for contact information and noted some partners work with selected schools depending on capacity and fit.
