Chair Metairie proposed placing three reclassification items (14, 24 and 55) into a general pool so their funding would not be treated as an automatic approval, and said that each reclassification should be discussed in public when an individual's case arises. He told the board, "I'm willing to entertain... those 3 positions... that they're put into a pool" with the understanding public discussion will occur. The chair also said three clerk reclassifications (items 43, 44 and 45) should remain funded in the draft because the clerk had already made internal cuts and reorganizations to accommodate those requests.
Brandy Falcon confirmed staff could pool the identified positions and that, if the board approved the pooling along with the clerk-funded positions and the other cuts discussed, the draft would still require approximately $139,000 to balance until vehicle funding and a small revenue tweak are applied. The board directed that HR review the pooled requests and that individual job description changes be considered in public HR meetings rather than assumed through the budget process.
