Parowan proclaims April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month

Parowan’s city council approved Resolution 2026-5 on March 26, 2026, formally designating April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month for the city.

Commissioner Blake (speaker S16), who presented the request on behalf of Prevent Child Abuse Utah, said the nonprofit is expanding peer- and victim-support services into southern Utah and asked local governments to join a countywide proclamation. "They approached me a few weeks ago and asked if Iron County and municipalities would be willing to designate April as prevent child abuse month," Blake said, and urged the council to support a meet-and-greet event to introduce the organization to the community.

Mayor (speaker S2) moved to adopt the resolution and received a second. The roll call included recorded 'aye' votes during the action; the mayor declared the motion carried and encouraged residents to support awareness activities during April.

The resolution text emphasizes community partnerships, public awareness, and the symbolic blue ribbon for prevention month. The council did not attach additional funding to the proclamation; discussion focused on recognizing the work and facilitating an introductory event for the nonprofit.
